Wood sculpture is one of the most popular folk art branches in the past and in the present in Lithuania. The carvings of wood are vary varied and they are executed with such perfection, that they can boldly be called sculptures. Carvings were done for sacred purposes, later as artistic creations that suit the landscape perfectly. There are no schools that prepare wood sculptors. Sculptures decorate places of remembrance or simply fill a space or gladden the eye.
