Yule in the Netherworld 2014

"What to do, where to go, see that is a good question"

The second nisse had given this some thoughts, "In the harbor, there are plenty of boats, and most people don't use them during midwinter", he answered.

"See, that is a good answer to my question", the first nisse said merrily.

And the word was sent out, to North and South, to East and West, to all their friends: Yule gathering in the harbor.

All the nisses and leprechauns and some little trolls gathered in the harbour, the night before Christmas. If you were not so busy decorating your Christmas tree, or making Christmas dinner, or going to church, you might have seen that there was activity in the harbor, but then maybe not, they are difficult to spot.

"Should we put up the sail and go sailing?", a little leprechaun asked. His friends locked at him, and he had to admit he knew nothing about sailing, so that was maybe a wild idea. Then someone knocked at the door, and the whole party tried to disappear in a hurry. Bu.t there was no reason to worry; entered Draugen himself. He is the most dangerous of all the creatures from the Netherworld, living under the sea. If you meet him, it is hard to know if you ever live to tell the tale. But, it is different for us than them, they are after all part of the same family; some good, other not so good.

Wow, did they get sailing! Draugen sailed like the devil himself; some say he is closely related to him. They sailed all the way north through the Northern Sea, and all the way Draugen held the rudder steady. The winds blew harder, a storm came in, but Draugen just laughed, loving the bad weather, yet kept his company safe. The whales cheered them on the way, they met mermaids and they danced under the Northern light. A joyful Yule; truly a Yule to remember.

I am not sure whose boat they borrowed, but I can assure every boat owner in the harbor, that these guests will clean up after themselves properly, and you will hardly know anyone has been on board. The only thing that might give them away, is the fact that their knots tend to be slightly more difficult to open in the spring than our ordinary knots. This is good if there is a new storm approaching during winter.
